Ben’s work with bison for the tribe laid the foundation—spending years learning, working alongside them, and developing a deep respect for what they represent. That experience sparked something bigger: the desire to build on that knowledge, to create something of our own, and to raise and care for bison as a family.
As a Native American-owned operation, everything we do is grounded in respect—for the land, the animals, and the generations before us who lived closely with both.
With five kids growing up in the middle of it all, this ranch is where lessons are learned, values are lived, and legacy is built every day. From early mornings to long days in the field, we’re raising more than bison—we’re raising a family rooted in purpose.
Giving back to our community is part of who we are, because we believe success means lifting others along the way.

FOUNDERS
Ben and Melissa Bearshield are the husband-and-wife team behind Bearshield Bison. What began with Ben’s work with bison for the tribe grew into a shared dream—to raise and care for these animals as a family. With five kids by their side, they’re building a life rooted in tradition, hard work, and passing down a legacy that will last for generations. -
